A London Red Bus dropped British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and President Uhuru Kenyatta at a reception for the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow, Scotland, Britain.

President Kenyatta and Prime Minister Johnson on Monday night, November 1, rode on an electric bus to the 26th Conference of Parties (COP26) reception at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery, Glasgow.

The Red Bus had a big blue and white banner that read: "The Iconic London Bus, Built In Scotland". It dropped the two at the reception where senior members of the Royal Family and world leaders met.

President Kenyatta pledged to champion the climate needs of African countries as Queen Elizabeth II urged global leaders to act "for our children and our children's children" and rise above the politics of the moment.

The COP26 is seen as the moment when countries must deliver on pledges made in the accord agreed in Paris six years ago, to limit temperature rises to well below 2C above pre-industrial levels and pursue efforts to curb warming to 1.5C - beyond which the worst impacts will be felt.

Speaking in Glasgow, President Kenyatta pushed for an increase of energy by member states to end carbon emissions and an increment in climate financing.

He also asked world leaders to support adaptation and provisions to help the vulnerable adapt to climate change.

“Kenya has high expectations at the COP26 meeting to see a quantum increase in climate financing. Two times in a row developing countries have been promised USD100 billion per year but this is yet to be delivered," Uhuru stated.

“Increase in financial support should be strengthened. We expect the Paris agreement to be finalised and it should be inclusive to accommodate the needs and priorities for developing countries," he added.

The summit started on a high note with global leaders warning that failure to upscale measures to reduce carbon emissions will further create hostile environments for generations to come.

World leaders are meeting at Glasgow to discuss new targets for cutting or curbing the growth of emissions that contribute to climate change.

African countries used the COP summit to demand rich nations honour and then deepen their pledges to fund climate change initiatives.
