New details have emerged on the contentious ownership of the A&L hotel that has pitted Machakos Governor, Dr Alfred Mutua, against his former partner Lillian Ng’ang’a

In a recent interview with a local publication, Lillian claimed to have conceived the idea of the hotel. This led to the birth of Ndash Enterprises, the company that owns the hotel, which was named after her.

At incorporation, Lillian is reported to have had a 100 per cent stake in the hotel, but relinquished 50 per cent of her shares to Mutua when both became personal guarantors for the hotel after receiving a loan facility upwards of Ksh145 million from a local commercial bank.

According to a highly placed source, Lillian currently has only 200 shares out of a possible 2,000 she is entitled to for her 50 per cent ownership in the hotel.

This is only 10 per cent of her total shares, an issue she has termed fraudulent. Lillian now wants what she claims is rightfully hers, the additional 1,800 shares.

Kenyans.co.ke further learnt that the fate of the hotel is currently unknown, with both parties seeking to claim a significant stake.

This comes against the backdrop of an ongoing separation between the two which has taken an ugly turn. Recently, Lillian accused Mutua of allegedly threatening her life with Machakos Governor reportedly seizing a motor vehicle belonging to her.

The acclaimed hotel, which is the only five star hotel in Machakos, is located along the Machakos-Kitui Road and has several amenities including a restaurant, a bar and a garden. It would cost one an average of Ksh14,500 per night.

Further, it has unique features such as a waterfall on the side of the building.

The A&L hotel, which derives its name from the couple’s initials, officially opened on July 24, 2020, after being under construction for nearly five years.
