Kisumu Serial Killer Killed By Fellow Inmates

The suspected serial killer from Kisumu county who took the county by storm has hit the headlines again, this time perhaps for the last time as he was killed by fellow inmates at Kodiaga main prison.

Harrison Okumu who was in remand is said to have been attacked by three other inmates who killed him inside the cell they were in.

Speaking to The Nation, Nyanza regional prison Commandant Amos Misik confirmed the incident which took place on Wednesday evening.

The scuffle is said to have started at around 3 in the afternoon before escalating to a fatal level which saw Okumu meet his death.

The root of the scuffle is yet to be established.

According to a report by The Standard, the death comes after two failed attempts by the suspect to take his own life.

Okumu had allegedly once set his mattress on fire as he tried to set himself ablaze but was rescued by prison warders and taken to hospital for treatment.

His second attempt at suicide by scaling the prison's perimeter wall was also stopped by warders.

Okumu became famous after remains of human bodies were found in a shallow grave next to his house in Miguye village but escaped before he could be arrested.

He was later tracked down in Mombasa, while on transit to Garissa and arrested for the murder of 5 people.

The suspect had been kept in remand awaiting to be arraigned in court for the murder charges when he met his death.
