KTN presenter Jama Gaddafi on Monday, December 6, announced plans to exit from the Mombasa Road-based media house.
In an exclusive call to Kenyans.co.ke, Gaddafi intimated that he would be taking a break from the station in February 2022 to join politics.
The presenter, who confirmed that he would be contesting for the Malindi Parliamentary seat, explained that this is to pave way for him to launch his campaign in the area.
"I will be leaving in February, 2022, to start campaigning," the presenter reiterated.
Gaddafi further revealed that he would vie for the seat under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). He added that he has already submitted his name for the nomination process, which he expressed confidence would be fair.
"First is to go through the nomination process to get the party(ODM) ticket," he stated.
The presenter, who took a break from the Life and Style show, stated that he would support the candidate that would win the party preliminaries, adding that he would not contest as an independent candidate if he loses.
His exit falls in line with directives issued by the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) on August 19.
MCK declared that all journalists and media practitioners seeking elective seats in the August 9, 2022 General Election should resign from their positions six months prior.
"As it applies in the public service where civil servants intending to vie for political office are required to leave office six months to elections and are under strict edicts not to use their space and influence to campaign for political office, the media is no exception," MCK announced.
Jamal is however not new to politics. He has been seen around politicians such as Mombasa Governor, Ali Hassan Joho.
