Kenyan motorists are set to received improved service delivery after the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) signed a distribution pact with Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK).

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Monday, December 27, a representative from the authority noted that NTSA would from 2022 begin distributing driving licenses and logbooks to the public through Postal Corporation of Kenya.

He further stated that the service would first be rolled out in Nairobi before being extended to the rest of the country.

The agreement was signed this year by NTSA Director General, George Njao, and PCK head, Dan Kagwe, but it could not kick off immediately.

"Because of the logistical issues we could not roll out immediately. Everything is almost in place and soon we will start rolling," the director in charge of motor vehicle registration and licensing, Christopher Wanjau, stated.

NTSA has been on the spot over the issues related to its services and now it believes it's now taking services closer to citizens.

The authority's DG disclosed that his staff were working towards ensuring that the crucial documents are delivered to their holders on the same day as per President Uhuru Kenyatta's directive.

"We are moving towards the implementation of the same day service delivery directive by the President" explained Njao.

A representative from Postal Corporation noted that the distribution charges will depend on individual's pick-up location.

"It will depend with the distance. If you want to collect your license in Garissa the charges will definitely be high compared to someone in Nyandarua or Nakuru," stated the official.

In 2019, the road safety agency moved its services to Huduma Centres across the country in a move that was aimed at decongesting regional offices.

"This has decongested  both our head and regional offices beside ensuring that clients receive quality services," explained Njao during the signing in 2021.

In Mombasa, digital driving licences are already being printed and distributed to the public within days. According to the DG, the public will also be in position to monitor and track the documents because it will be controlled by the digital system.
