Amani National Congress (ANC) leader, Musalia Mudavadi, elicited mixed reactions on Sunday, January 23 after taking a swipe at President Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga while delivering his speech.

The ANC leader, who was launching his presidential bid at the Bomas of Kenya, noted that Kenya is broke because of President Kenyatta insatiable appetite for loans, corrupt officials and the inaction on the part of government agencies.

Mudavadi also stated that the cost of living was at an all-time high and castigated Kenyatta for plotting his succession instead of addressing the needs of the ordinary Kenyans.

"They don't pay taxes. They are the biggest burden Kenyans have to carry. We must reject their political projects and their sinister schemes in this year's elections.

"I refuse to board. I will not be lying to Kenyans. I will not board a train of lies Where are the handshake partners? Why should we line up next to the president to beg for development," he remarked.

While Mudavadi is known to be a sober leader and often calls things as he sees them, his fiery speech left many wondering who penned it.

Well, it has now emerged that the hard-hitting speech may have been drafted by the ANC leader's Communications Director, Spokesperson and Personal Secretary Kibisu Kabatesi. He is the man who often writes Mudavadi's speeches.

Sources indicated that Kabatesi, who is known for his bare-knuckle approach when highlighting the government's inefficiencies and corruption, has been friends with Mudavadi since their campus days.

According to his 5-page CV, he graduated from the University of Nairobi (UoN) with a Bachelor of Arts in Literature (First Class Honours) in 1985. He also holds a Master of Arts in International Studies (UoN) and got his PhD from the University of Maryland.

Kabatesi has over 35 years of experience in media communication research, media communication and public relations.

He lectured at the University of Nairobi between 1990 and 2018 and has worked for several other organisations including The Standard Group, The Star, World Health Organisation (WHO), National Christian Churches of Kenya (NCCK), Longman Kenya Limited, Mwanachi Newspaper, just to name a few.
