Six members of one family lost their lives on the morning of Sunday, April 10, in a suspected arson attack resulting from wrangles with relatives.
The six included a grandmother, her three children and two grandchildren who were inside the house when the incident happened.
Witnesses claim that the doors were locked from outside when the incident happened at Nguthuru village in Kandara Constituency, Murang'a County.
A report by Citizen TV indicates that the grandmother's sister has been arrested in connection with the arson believed to have emanated from family wrangles.
The main suspect in the attack is said to have moved out of the house just days before the fire incident.
By the time of publishing this story, police officers had taken over and cordoned off the scene. A significant part of the roofing was burnt down - showing just how intense the fire had been.
Police have launched investigations into the incident and are still holding the suspect at Kabati police station.
This comes barely two weeks after one foreign national was burnt to death and four others injured severely after their house was set ablaze.
The five, who lived in Mawanga Estate, had been accused of rape.
One of the victims passed away on Monday, March 21 while receiving treatment at Nakuru Specialist Hospital. Another was admitted to the Nakuru Nursing Home Intensive Care Unit (ICU) while in critical condition.
Cases of Kenyans taking matters into their own hands have been on the rise in recent months as the country hits a peak political campaign period.
“A crime is a crime and I regret what happened. I strongly condemn the arson incident and I call upon all law enforcement agencies to move swiftly to investigate the matter,” Nakuru Human Rights Network Director, David Kuria, condemned the incident.
