Baringo Senator, Gideon Moi, has assured his supporters and party candidates that KANU's allegiance and support remains steadily in Azimio La Umoja One Kenya despite confusion and reports that he was planning to exit the coalition and join Wiper's Kalonzo Musyoka.
In a statement addressed to the party candidates on Wednesday, May 18, Moi affirmed that KANU is still driven by the principles of enhancing unity by bringing people together.
Alluding to this, he noted that KANU will continue with its engagement with Azimio with the sole purpose of delivering victory in the August 9 polls and bringing together political parties sharing the ideologies.
"Dear candidate, member and party loyalist, warmest greetings. I wish to take this opportunity to reassure you individually and collectively that we are focused on the unity of all Kenyans as per our party values of peace, love and unity. We are actively engaged in bringing together all our political partners with whom we share ideologies.
"We, therefore, remain committed to the aspirations and guiding principles of Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition and its mission of inclusivity. And to this end, we shall leave no one behind," he stated.
Moi, on Monday, May 16, sent a mixed message after making a brief appearance at the KICC during the unveiling of the Azimio running mate and later appeared at the SKM Command Centre where Kalonzo was launching his presidential bid.
KANU political affairs secretary, Fredrick Okang'o, while appearing on Citizen TV on Wednesday, May 18, opined that Moi was the unifying factor between Kalonzo and Raila Odinga.
"Gideon Moi is the unifying factor between Kalonzo and Raila. He is the one who has been bringing them together throughout this negotiations period," he stated.
During the unveiling of the Azimio One Kenya running mate, KANU Secretary General, Nick Salat, assured Raila that the independent party was in Azimio to stay.
"I am happy today that I am alive to see our fifth president choose a woman as his deputy. Lacking a stand is a very bad thing.
"I want to assure the fifth president that KANU is inside Azimio la Umoja. Ignore any other thing you have heard. I am telling you I am here to stay and we will vote for you," Salat affirmed.
