AG Proposes Rewarding Whistle Blowers in Graft Cases

It may now pay to be a whistle blower in any graft cases in the country if a proposal by the Attorney General is approved by the President.

Githu Muigai proposed in a report on Monday that those who report such cases be given part of the property recovered after completion of the cases.

The proposal could see people reporting or testifying in corruption cases benefit from what is recovered from those involved the vice, The Nation reports.

The report indicates that a person who reports corruption should get at least 10 per cent of the value of any property recovered.

The reward will only be given after investigations and conclusion of the matter through judicial or other dispute-resolution mechanisms.

Muigai argues that the proposal would help motivate more Kenyans report corruption cases.

Citizen Digital reports that Transparency International (TI) quotes only seven in 100 Kenyans who will report or complain about corruption.
