On Wednesday, August 10, some counties in the country began announcing winners of various elective political seats, majorly in Parliamentary and County Assembly seats.

In some of these areas, new comers in elective politics emerged victorious, in some cases upsetting seasoned politicians.

For instance, former Chief of Staff in the Office of Deputy President William Ruto, Marianne Kitany, will be heading to the August House as the newly elected Member of Parliament for Aldai.

Kitany emerged victorious after garnering 42,015 votes. She defeated all her competitors by a landslide with her closest rival, Cornelly Serem, garnering only 13,309 votes.

In yet another upset, Shadrack Mwiti emerged victorious ahead of MC Jessy who was angling to join politics through the Imenti South seat.

Mwiti will take over the seat from Kathuri Murungi who opted to compete for the Senate seat. Murungi was the area MP since 2013.

"To the people of South Imenti Constituency, I sincerely thank you so much for the time we have interacted during our campaign time. It has been a great journey. A journey of amazing political adventure, a journey of daring hearts. We will continue to engage as we look forward to next time, God willing," Jessy congratulated the new MP-elect.

Robert Alai will also join the Nairobi County Assembly as its new member for the first time after he was declared the winner. Alai will take over from Elias Otieno Okumu.

The lawmaker, who worked as a blogger, settled on Kileleshwa seat after initially launching his bid to become Nyando MP.
