Govt Announces Job Opportunities for Principal Secretaries; How to Apply

Public Service Commission (PSC) has announced job opportunities for Principal Secretaries (PS) to be recommended to William Ruto for appointment after his swearing-in ceremony. 

According to the special gazette notice dated Wednesday, September 7, the appointed PS will report directly to Cabinet Secretaries hand-picked by Ruto and vetted by Parliament. 

Among the roles, the PSs will take, is being the accounting and authorised officers of their state departments. 

They will also implement government policies and strategic plans key to shaping Ruto's legacy.

Other duties included facilitating the achievement of government programmes and projects and ensuring efficient utilization of financial and other resources in the state department.

Requirements for Appointment

One ought to be a Kenyan citizen, holding a degree from a recognised university.

Applicants should have at least ten years of relevant professional experience and possess a general knowledge of government functions.

They will also be required to demonstrate leadership and management capacity and meet Chapter Six of the Constitution on leadership and integrity.

PSC will determine contracts, while salaries will be allocated by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).

"A detailed curriculum vitae should accompany each application. Copies of relevant academic and professional certificates and transcripts, National Identity Card or Passport, testimonials and other relevant supporting documents will also be required.

"Scanned copies of these documents must accompany an online application," PSC directed. 

It also advised applications that letters delivered physically should be marked 'Application for the position of Principal Secretary.'

"Manual applications should be hand-delivered to the Office of the Secretary/CEO situated on the 4th Floor of Commission House, off Harambee Avenue," the notice added.

A list of successful candidates will be published in the print media. 

The number of Principal Secretaries will be determined by the number of Cabinet Secretaries appointed in Ruto's administration. Reports stated that Ruto would appoint nearly 22 Cabinet Secretaries.
