Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja unveiled the annual Nairobi festival bringing together artists, athletes and entrepreneurs in the city.
Speaking during a meeting with the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce officials on Thursday, September 22, Sakaja explained the festival dubbed 'vibe of the city' is set to give a platform for the exhibition of art, matatu culture, food and other creatives.
The festival will be held after Jamhuri Day Celebrations on December 12. He, however did not close how the festival was going to be funded.
The county will partner with organisers NaiFest, an annual event, to support art and talent.
"In December, we will set aside some streets to display culture, food, creativity, have the nganya awards for the best done matatus, have rugby, football and basketball tournaments and many other activities," Sakaja stated.
The launching of the festival aligns with his campaign pledge, where he promised to support local talents and empower artists in the city.
The first-time governor also announced plans to review laws restricting photography and videography within the Central Business District (CBD).
Sakaja argued that revising the laws will help business ventures in the city thrive. He specifically emphasised the need to build proper structures to support traders across the county.
"When we say we want to be pro-business it is not just passive to stop harassment of traders but we want to be proactive to facilitate and promote. There are many archaic laws, including those that hamper creativity and innovation, and we are going to weed those out," he stated.
"Business people should spend more time doing business and not chasing compliance issues," Sakaja insisted.
On the other hand, Kenya National Chamber of Commerce officials expressed their willingness to support the governor's development agenda in the county.
