Japhet Koome who is set to succeed the former Inspector General of police Hilary Mutyambai will be vetted on Tuesday, November 8.
In a notice from the Acting Clerk at the National Assembly Serah Kioko, part of the vetting committee includes the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Affairs and the Senate Standing Committee on National Security, Defence, and Foreign Relations.
Additionally, Kenyans have been granted a 10-day window to share their views on the new IG with the Parliament.
All interested parties have until Thursday, November 3 at 5 pm to submit their comments.
"The presentations may be forwarded to the Clerk of the National Assembly or the Clerk of the Senate, hand-delivered to the offices of the Clerks, main Parliament buildings, or emailed to the Clerks at the Senate and the National Assembly," the notice read in parts.
In the submission, Kenyans are also expected to include supporting evidence.
After vetting, the committee shall have 28 days to either approve or reject the nominee according to the Public Appointments Act, 2011.
Notably, Noor Gabow is the acting IG after Mutyambai resigned on Tuesday, September 27 alongside former Director General of Criminal Investigations, George Kinoti.
Koome was nominated by President William Ruto on Tuesday, September 27 in accordance with the Constitution.
This however attracted mixed reactions from the public and experts that argued the president is not mandated to appoint the IG.
"The Inspector-General is appointed by the President with the approval of Parliament, and shall exercise independent command over the National Police Service, and perform any other functions prescribed by national legislation," states Article 245 of the Constitution.
