Renowned TV personality Mark Masai admitted to being nervous for the first time in his career while he hosted sports media guru, Carol Radull.
Speaking on the Social Newsroom on Tuesday, February 7, Masai revered Radull as an enigma in the media industry, revealing that she gave him his first job in the media industry.
He stated that at the time, the sports journo was part of the management of Radio Africa Group.
"I am with someone who makes me nervous, she was my first boss in the newsroom. This lady gave me the opportunity to be on air. She called me when I was at the university..." he narrated before Radull politely interrupted him.
The sports journalism guru wanted to tell the story from her perspective, a request Masai obliged. Meanwhile co-host Dennis Okari was listening keenly.
"When I was at Kiss 100, we would advertise for voiceovers and would tell people to call a line and record themselves. We would get 2,500 voices and listen to all of them," Radull stated.
She was very thorough and listened to all the voice notes from the aspiring journalists. However, only two sparked her interest, and one of them was that of Mark.
"The one good voice I heard, I knew this was the guy. I did not care whether or not he was a journalist but we had to hire him and sure enough, he was qualified.
"We called him for an interview. He did well but told us that he had not finished school. I told him that we would wait and we did not hire anyone," she explained.
Mark disclosed that he had reasonable doubts about the pledge but much to his surprise, he would receive a call later.
"A month after I graduated, I received a call and I wondered, you guys are still after me. I joined Classic 105 on the afternoon shift," he added.
Maasai grew his career and became one of the most sought-after journalists. He spent 14 years at NTV on the prime-time desk before leaving the station in December 2022.
