Individuals Found Selling Porn To be Fined Sh500,000 In Nakuru

The Nakuru County Assembly has passed a bill that will see individuals caught selling pornographic materials fined half a million shillings.

The regulations in the Nakuru County Anti-Pornographic Bill, heavily penalizes operations linked to the production and sale of materials viewed to be obscene and harmful to the public consumption.

The bill has made it illegal to import or export print or electronic, audio and visual material that could be used to corrupt morals or depict individuals in obscene manners.

Anyone found dealing with such material could end up in prison for up to five years or pay the Sh500, 000 fine.

It describes pornographic material as public display in print, audio, electronic or other similar mediums that describe or exhibit obscenity.

The bill has also given officers the right to search establishments without a warrant if they suspect the establishment to house the pornographic materials.

Anyone interfering with the search could also be arrested or asked to pay the fine.

The bill was drafted and tabled by Nakuru Member of County Assembly, Michael Wang’ombe.

He had expressed fears that Nakuru was turning into an immoral town, comparing the town to Vegas in the US.

Nakuru has in the past become the destination for young people from other towns looking to party.

The town has been given the name NaxVegas, following its popularity with fun seeking individuals.

Leaders have come out to strongly condemn the activities during such escapades.

The bill has been passed to the governor for approval.
