Court Refuses To Release Mugo wa Wairimu

Court has allowed Police to detain fake doctor Mugo wa Wairimu for seven more days to complete investigations on the video footage linking the suspect to rape.

The video that now is a subject of focus in the case showed a man appearing to rape a sedated woman at a medical facility.

State lawyer Jacinta Nyamosi told the court that 10 witnesses including victims had recorded statements accusing Wairimu also known as James Mugo Ndichu of various offences.

Nyamosi asked the court for 20 more days to complete investigations citing the complexity of the case adding that investigators were yet to cover crucial areas before Mugo was officially charged.

Presiding over the case Milimani Resident Margistrate Edda Agade however granted the investigators only seven days.

Police early this week said that there was no forensic evidence to charge Mugo with rape with reports suggesting that only one woman had recorded a statement with the Criminals Investigation Department.

Earlier reports indicated that due to lack of sufficient evidence, Mugo could only face charges of indecent assault and operating an unlicensed clinic.

The Head of Serious Crimes Unit John Kariuki had appealed to victims to record statements with the police in order to build a strong case against the phony gynaecologist.

Wairimu who was arrested while on the run at a hotel in Limuru, was first exposed on a national TV, with some victims coming forth to explain their ordeal at his Githurai 44 Clinic in Nairobi.

The unregistered 'doctor' has since maintained his innocence with regards to the accusations levelled against him and is set to take to take plea on October 2nd.
