George Magoha

George Magoha is the current Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Education. 

Born in 1952, Magoha is a Kenyan consultant surgeon, academic administrator, and technocrat of good standing.

He is also the Chairman of the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (KMPDB, Kenya Association of Urological Surgeons (KAUS) and former President of the Association of African Universities (AAU).

He previously served as the Vice-Chancellor, University of Nairobi (UoN), from January 2005 to January 2015 and a Professor of Surgery and a Consultant Urologist, College of Health Sciences, UoN

The CS is a medical doctor who furthered his studies in surgery and urology at Lagos University Teaching Hospital, University College Hospital, Ibadan, Royal College of Surgeons.

He joined Royal Postgraduate Medical School Hammersmith Hospital, London, Department of Urology, where he earned various academic awards.

As the Education CS, Magoha led the country’s education docket through the coronavirus pandemic. He oversaw the closure of schools and all other learning institutions in an attempt to curb the spread of coronavirus.

Besides fighting corruption cartels at the Education Ministry, he made tough decisions to partially reopen schools at the height of the pandemic to save exam candidates from losing a whole calendar year.
