Godfrey Otunge

Godfrey Otunge holds the rank of Senior Assistant Inspector General of Police (SAIG) in the National Police Service and served as the Force Commander for the Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission in Haiti.

As the Force Commander, despite facing persistent challenges, including funding constraints, logistical hurdles, and the loss of personnel, the MSS, under his command, achieved significant and tangible successes.

A key accomplishment was the disruption of major criminal networks. The mission, in close partnership with the Haitian National Police (HNP), successfully liberated strategic areas in and around the capital that had been under gang control for months.

This included the crucial reclamation of critical infrastructure such as the Toussaint Louverture International Airport, the main seaport, and the Péligre Dam, laying the groundwork for renewed economic stability.

His forces established several Forward Operating Bases, creating secure corridors for communities to rebuild their lives and for essential services, like hospitals and schools, to safely reopen.

Otunge was instrumental in maintaining the mission's focus on human rights, publicly affirming a zero-tolerance policy against violations throughout the year.

As the mission transitioned into the Gang Suppression Force (GSF) later in the year, his steady command ensured continuity and reinforced the commitment to long-term stability.
