Jepkosgei Chemoiwa

Jepkosgei Chemoiwa is a Kenyan teacher from Baringo County who won the continental award from UNESCO's International Institute for Capacity Building as the best teacher in Africa in September.

A dedicated Mathematics and Physics teacher with over 15 years of experience at Emining Boys High School in Baringo County, Chemoiwa leveraged the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic to pioneer large-scale online learning initiatives that reached thousands of students daily.

Her approach extends beyond traditional teaching; she has been a master trainer in livestreaming and virtual laboratories, introducing digital tools, gamification platforms, and even robotics training to make learning interactive and engaging in underserved regions.

She embodies the spirit of community service, engaging in women's empowerment groups and inspiring excellence in both her students and fellow educators.

Her innovative and dedicated approach has earned her the highest continental recognition. In a landmark achievement in 2025, she was named the African Union Continental Best Teacher by the African Union (AU) in collaboration with UNESCO's International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (IICBA).

This prestigious award, announced on World Teachers' Day in October, celebrates teachers who demonstrate exceptional commitment to quality education and transformative practices.

Chemoiwa was nominated for the prize by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
