Khadija Mohammed Juma

Khadija Mohammed Juma is a nurse and social innovator who works at Tudor Sub-County Hospital in Mombasa. She started RedSplash, a tech-driven programme that makes it easier for people to donate and for hospitals to find donors.

Inspired by the preventable death of a friend's mother due to delayed blood transfusions, she founded RedSplash to directly connect donors with patients in real-time, effectively bypassing informal and often unsafe supply chains.

Her innovative "Deliver blood faster than pizza" model has revolutionised public attitudes and mobilised thousands of volunteers, leading over 500 donation drives to collect more than 25,000 units of blood, saving an estimated 75,000 lives to date.

In May 2025, from over 100,000 nominations worldwide, Khadija was named a Top 10 global finalist and subsequently emerged as the runner-up for the prestigious Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award in Dubai, a significant honour in the nursing profession.

Her contributions to community health and innovative use of technology have also been acknowledged by the Commonwealth Youth Awards and the Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency named her their "Kenyan of the Week".
