Mercy Tarus is a Kenyan activist who rose to prominence in 2023 when she faced off with Uasin Gishu Leaders over the education airlift scholarship scandal that left many applicants feeling scammed.
With the clip doing rounds across social media, the Kabarak University graduate quickly joined the ranks of major activists in the country, scoring media interviews and cementing her influence on social media.
Despite receiving upwards of five job offers, including from Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina, Tarus denied them all and stressed her platform would be utilised to fight for the rights of parents and students in Uasin Gishu County.
She is the main witness in the ongoing court case.
Currently, she is the director of a Non-governmental Organisation dubbed ‘Kenya ni Home’ whose main objective is to fight for the rights of Kenyan citizens.
In September this year, she clashed with civic educator and fellow activist Morara Kebaso after he used her slogan without her consent.
Despite receiving backlash from some people, Tarus held her ground and dissociated herself from Kebaso.
A teacher by profession, she also describes herself as a Mental Health Advocate.
