Okiya Omtatah, renowned for his defense of the constitution and public accountability, remains one of the country’s most respected voices in governance and human rights advocacy.
Throughout 2025, he has continued to make headlines for his unwavering pursuit of justice through the courts and his vocal opposition to government overreach. His continued defense of Kenyans’ rights in and outside the courtrooms has cemented his place among Kenya’s most principled lawmakers.
In 2025, Omtatah has been at the forefront of major public interest litigations, challenging government actions he deems unconstitutional or oppressive. He has particularly taken issue with state attempts to silence dissent, including youth activists, public finance management, among many others.
His advocacy this year also extended to economic and governance issues, where he has raised concerns over public debt management, resource allocation, and corruption.
Beyond the courtroom, Omtatah has continued to build his political profile. After announcing in November 2024 his intention to vie for the presidency in 2027, he moved forward in 2025 by establishing a 10-member Presidential Exploratory Committee, which was tasked with evaluating his campaign's viability and crafting a national agenda rooted in integrity, justice, and equity.
A trained philosopher, Omtatah holds a Diploma in Philosophy from St. Augustine's Senior Seminary, Mabanga, in Bungoma County.
