Peter Ndegwa

Peter Ndegwa is the Safaricom CEO, a position he has occupied since April 1, 2020, following the demise of Bob Collymore in 2019.

Ndegwa was previously the Europe Continental Managing Director at Diageo, a role he held since July 2018.

He is an alumni of Starehe Boys Center and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Nairobi. He also holds an MBA from London Business School.

He worked at the global consulting firm Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC) in different roles in Kenya and the UK.

He returned to Kenya in 2002 and worked at the East African Breweries Limited (EABL) as Strategy Director from 2004 where he was instrumental in the rolling out of the Senator Keg brand.

Senator Keg was featured in the Harvard Business Review as a product case study. He is also a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).

In 2020, Safaricom PLC, through its M-PESA and Safaricom Foundations, committed Ksh 200 Million toward providing food and nutrition to Kenyans in need during the pandemic. This followed a request by His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta for emergency resource mobilization towards containing the spread and impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This financial commitment added to some of the ongoing initiative under the “Bonga for Good” programme that enabled customers to redeem Safaricom Bonga Points to pay for essential goods and donate their points to those in need as a show of goodwill during this period.
