Rachel Ruto

Mama Rachel Ruto is the First Lady of the Republic of Kenya.

Raised from a  humble background, the First Lady started her education at Likuyani Primary School before proceeding to Butere Girls High School where she did her O Levels examination. 

Mama Rachel holds a bachelor’s degree in Education from Kenyatta University. She gave up the teaching profession when she got married to President William Samoei Ruto  to stay at home and take care of their children.

The 54-year-old has dedicated her life to create favorable conditions for girls and women in Kenya to thrive.

Currently, she is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Joyful Women Organization, an initiative that has empowered thousands of women particularly in the rural parts of Kenya.

In 2022, she traversed different regions of the country to campaign for her partner, who was sworn into office as the fifth President of Kenya on Tuesday, September 13, 2022.  

Mama Rachel has received numerous awards including the prestigious Honorary Fellowship Award on Women Empowerment. She was awarded the award on January 17, 2014 at the Malaysia-based Binary University.
