Veteran Politician Simeon Nyachae died on February 1, 2021, after battling illness for over a long period of time.

Arguably one of the most prominent politicians to come from the Kisii region, Nyachae's tenure in politics amassed over four decades.

He served in various ranks in government through the Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, Mzee Daniel Arap Moi and former President Mwai Kibaki regimes.

He was appointed by Mzee Jomo Kenyatta as a district officer in Kangundo in 1960, as a district commissioner for Nyandarua in March 1963 and later a provincial commissioner for Central in 1964.

He later served in the defunct provincial administration until 1979 and later as head of civil service under the Kenyatta regime, extending into the late President Moi's rule.

Nyachae served as cabinet minister first for Agriculture, then in 1998 as minister of finance under President Moi's regime. He then served as MP for Nyaribari Chache before losing to Robert Monda.

The former minister retired from active politics in 2007.

Nyachae was known to be among the wealthiest individuals in the country with investments, cutting across the banking, agriculture, transport, manufacturing and real estate industries across major towns in the country including Narok, Kisii, Kericho, Sotik, Kisumu, Mombasa, Nyeri and Nairobi.

Some of his most notable investments include the Kabansora Mills in Nairobi, and shares in newly formed NCBA according to a report by Business Daily on November 27, 2019. He was among the shareholders of Transnational Bank that has since been acquired.

Nyachae left behind five wives; Martha Mwango, Druscilla Kerubo, Esther Nyaboke, Sylvia Nyachae, and Grace Wamuyu. His children include Charles Nyachae, Kenneth Bitange Nyachae, Mary Nyachae, and Grace Rosemary Nyachae.
