Police in Mombasa detained one of the children of convicted drug lords, 'The Akasha Brothers'.
The son of Mombasa businessman Ibrahim Akasha was arrested during a sting operation mounted by officers from Nyali Police Station.
Akasha's son was arrested on Saturday, January 7, over robbery with violence allegations.
"Police officers spotted a car parked on the side of the road. They approached the said car, but its occupants sped off defying orders to stop,” the report outlined.
According to OB number 14/06/01/2023, the 22-year-old was arrested while in the company of two other men following a tipoff from a member of the public.
Unfortunately, his accomplices escaped before the officers could pin them down during the night operation.
Police narrowed down on the suspect after an area resident complained that he was accosted by a gang that robbed him.
"The 24-year-old complained that on the previous day (Friday, January 6) around 7.30 pm within the Tudor area, he was abducted by a three-man-gang armed with knives," a part of the police report read.
According to the victim, he was reportedly forced inside a car before the occupants assaulted and robbed him of a mobile phone worth Ksh41,000 and Ksh3,000 in cash.
"He was then forced to provide his mobile money pin and later dumped him at first avenue within Nyali area," the report read.
Akasha's son and two accomplices packed their Nissan AD Wingroad car by the roadside along Nyali First Avenue when police officers challenged them.
"Three men alighted and fled by foot to a nearby bush. In the process, the suspect was arrested,” the report added.
Nyali police officers also attributed the suspects' vehicle to a previous robbery with violence.
