Britam on Wednesday, May 15, partnered with Financial Sector Deepening (FSD) Africa and Jacaranda Health to launch Britam Lea Mama, a healthcare system designed to support women throughout their pregnancy.
In a statement, Britam listed the services offered including prenatal care, skilled birth attendance, postnatal care and newborn care. Using the system, the woman receives SMS updates on what to expect throughout the pregnancy and addresses any concerns they may have.
The system is based on three pillars; companionship throughout pregnancy, prenatal and postnatal care and provision of supplements such as iron or folate as well as after-birth contraception options.
To be effective, Britam Lea Mama will collect data on maternal and neonatal health indicators to track progress and make data-driven decisions.
"By adopting a value-based approach, we aim to enhance the quality of care while reducing the per-capita cost of healthcare, stated Tamara Cook, FSD Kenya CEO.
