Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) PLC has achieved a significant milestone in operational excellence, earning ISO 45001:2018 certification for Occupational Health & Safety. This comes after rigorous audits by Bureau Veritas, confirming KenGen's adherence to international standards.

Consider ISO certification as a seal of approval. It signifies that an independent organisation has confirmed that a company's internal systems—such as manufacturing processes or service procedures—comply with internationally recognised standards for quality and consistency.

ISO 45001:2018 is an internationally recognised standard that mandates requirements for creating safe workplaces and preventing work-related injuries and illnesses. KenGen's certification reflects its well-defined systems and structures that ensure a consistently safe working environment, minimizing risks for employees and other stakeholders.

"This certification highlights our relentless commitment to safety and continuous improvement, noting that KenGen was the first public institution to receive the ISO certification in Kenya back in 2004," said KenGen Managing Director and CEO, Eng. Peter Njenga. He further stressed the company's focus on maintaining high standards, which has led to this certification and recertification in Quality Management Systems (QMS) and Environmental Management Systems (EMS).

Bureau Veritas Regional Sales Marketing Manager, Ali Noor, praised KenGen for its exceptional dedication during the audit process. "KenGen has demonstrated exceptional dedication to maintaining a safe workplace, significantly reducing the risk of illness or injury," he noted. The certification will span the next three years, marking the third certification since KenGen first achieved ISO certification in 2004.
