Kenya Airways and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) Kenya have forged a strategic partnership aimed at intensifying efforts against human trafficking and enhancing migrant protection. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) leverages IOM's migration governance expertise and Kenya Airways' extensive aviation network to implement robust measures.
These initiatives aim to identify, prevent, and combat trafficking while facilitating safe migration pathways. The collaboration underscores a joint commitment to upholding human dignity and supporting vulnerable individuals on the move.
Kenya Airways Group Managing Director and CEO, Allan Kilavuka, emphasised the airline's dedication to corporate social responsibility and traveller welfare. He highlighted plans to equip staff with training and resources to aid migrants, especially those in vulnerable situations. Meanwhile, Dimanche Sharon, IOM Chief of Mission, hailed the MOU as a milestone in safeguarding migrant rights and dignity. She stressed the partnership's potential to expand outreach and ensure safer, beneficial migration experiences.
Key initiatives under the MOU include specialised training for Kenya Airways staff to enhance their ability to assist migrants. The partnership also aims to advocate for policies that improve travel safety and disrupt trafficking networks. Additionally, a framework for information sharing between the airline and IOM will facilitate swift interventions.
