Former Embu Mayor Nelson Rintari and his family were left shaken after a 10 man gang attacked their home in Muthatari, Embu county.
The well organized gang armed with crude weapons made their way into the home at around 1 am Monday night after breaking the kitchen window grills, despite heavy security in the premises.
They then proceeded to rope the family while demanding money amid threats to kill them.
The assailants turned on the family house help who tried to call for help, causing serious head injuries.
According to Citizen News, this is the latest in a series of attacks that seem to be targeting prominent families in the area.
Rintari blamed the getting away of the gangsters on slow response by the police, they took over an hour to respond to distress calls despite being located nearby.
