10 MCAs in Mombasa Ditch ODM Party for Wiper, Blame Hassan Joho

ODM leader Raila Odinga is facing fresh trouble in the Coast region after more than 10 Members of County Assembly (MCAs) from Mombasa ditched his Orange party for Kalonzo Musyoka's Wiper.

Addressing the press on Thursday, the MCAs said they shifted because of Governor Hassan Joho's “poor leadership style”.

Among the MCAs who confirmed the defection include: Duncan Onyango (Mikindani), Jabess Mudhai (Kongowea), Enock Mwinga (Mwakirunge), Khamisi Mwabashiri (Mjambere) and Riziki Fundi (Bamburi).

Led by Mikindani ward representative, Mr Onyango stated that Odinga had refused to address their plight in the Orange party regarding the issue of Joho's dictatorial leadership in Mombasa.

"We tried having an audience with our party leader Raila Odinga, but he refused to listen to our pleas. Some people like Mohammed Hatimy, a nominated MCA, are planting aspirants in all wards. We won’t allow it. Mr Rajwai is with us on this journey and more will decamp,” Mr Onyango said.

Mr Mudhai added that he joined Wiper because it had “democracy” and no “hero-worshiping”.

The County legislators announced that they would support Senator Hassan Omar's bid for the Mombasa gubernatorial seat and ensure Joho is defeated.
