The Department of Immigration services announced the dedication of May 13- May 17 week to fast-track the delivery of passports.
In a statement, the department announced that Kenyans would be able to access their passports faster from Monday to Friday.
The directive cut across all the immigration offices in the country ranging from Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret, Embu, Nakuru, Kisii and Kericho.
Further, the department requested applicants who had received notifications that their passports were ready for collection to take advantage of the exercise and collect the documents.
“To enhance passport issuance, we have dedicated 13th-18th May 2024 to the fast-tracking of passport delivery in ALL passport application centres across the country,” read the notice in part.
The directive was part of a greater push by the Ministry of Interior to issue and improve access to the crucial document.
In a previous directive which came on May 9, the Ministry opened up its offices on Saturday for Kenyans.
The Immigration department centres in Nairobi were opened from 9 AM to 1PM with Kenyans urged to collect their passports from the offices.
“To expedite the collection of passports, our Nairobi office will be open from 9 am to 1 pm on Saturday 11 May 2024. Applicants who applied for passports in Nairobi and have received notifications to collect their passports are encouraged to take advantage of the extended service,” the notice read.
However, the Department is also catching up with delays in processing applications which were occasioned by a halt in production.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior on April 30, a glitch in the systems had necessitated the halting of the systems leading to an increase in the backlog which stood at 724,000.
However, the issue was fixed and passport issuance services resumed as normal.
