A huge fire on Friday burnt down 2 dormitories that host grade 7 students at Pentagon Academy in Migori County.

The incident happened while the students were attending their evening lessons. Upon receiving the information, they rushed to put out the fire and salvage their property.

However, attempts to put out the fire bore no fruit as the whole building was already engulfed by the inferno forcing the students to helplessly watch from a distance.

Firefighters who were on high alert quickly arrived at the scene and put out the fire with the help of the villagers.

According to a teacher at the school, nothing was recovered from the fire and it consumed property estimated at Ksh1 million.

“Learners screamed for help. Everything was burnt to ashes, there was nothing we could rescue,” one of the teachers who witnessed the incident narrated.

"Everything was burnt to ashes there was nothing we rescued and nothing was salvaged as they went to ashes.”

While narrating the incident, the teacher confirmed that no casualties or injuries were reported on the night incident.

“As a school, we had fire extinguishers that we tried to use to put out the fire but it was not possible because they were exhausted,” the teacher noted.

Meanwhile, investigations have since been launched to unravel the cause of the fire that has left learners stranded.

In a similar incident on April 2, a fire razed two dormitories at Masii Boys High School in Machakos County.

In the night incident, property of unknown value belonging to the students and the school infrastructure were destroyed.
