Kenyan Company Halts Applications After Over 3,000 People Apply for 2 Internship Positions

A Kenyan company on Monday halted applications after an overwhelming number of Kenyans showed interest in two advertised positions. 

Youth Agenda (YAA) had on May 6, announced that it was seeking two interns to work in their Nairobi-based office. 

Interested applicants were asked to submit their resumes either for Finance and Admin or Monitoring and Evaluation intern positions. 

Additionally, Kenyans were promised a competitive opportunity which would last for six months.

With the youth making up 60 per cent of unemployed Kenyans according to The Federation of Kenya Employers, thousands showed interest in the 6-month gig. 

“We have closed the application process for the Finance and Admin Intern and M&E Intern positions,” YAA announced after receiving the overwhelming responses. 

“We received 3000+ applications and will be reviewing, shortlisting, and giving feedback in the next few weeks.”

Of the over 3,000 who applied, they were advised to keep refreshing their emails to check if they stood a chance to be the lucky two. 

In March 2024, over 50,000 jobless youth unsuccessfully applied for limited internship slots advertised by the Public Service Commission.

President William Ruto’s administration appreciating there is a job crisis in the country has been working on strategies to cut down the rate of unemployment in the country.

Youth and young graduates are being taught digital skills so as to be able to take online jobs. 

Additionally, the government is exploring avenues to export 5,000 human capital every week to work in Asia, Europe and American countries.
