President William Ruto and his American counterpart Joe Biden will explore ways to help Ukraine and Sudan.

A top US official speaking to Reuters, noted the discussion to help the two countries comes against the backdrop of Kenya agreeing to deploy 1,000 soldiers to troubled Haiti.

Ruto and Biden are expected to discuss how to help Ukraine and Sudan during a bilateral meeting that will be held at the White House on Thursday, May 23.

Additionally, Ruto will brief Joe Biden on Kenya’s peace efforts in the continent especially East and the Horn of Africa.

It should be noted that Kenya is a member of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group which is an American-led alliance of over 50 countries.

The alliance gives military aid to President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s administration as well as coordinating monthly meetings to assess the Ukraine-Russian conflict.

At the time Ruto will be holding the bilateral meeting with Biden, the first batch of 200 Kenyan police officers are expected to land in Haiti.

The police officers will be expected to guard key government infrastructure as well as ensure Haiti holds free and fair elections.

“Biden and Ruto are expected to hold a joint news conference after their talks on Thursday and then attend a state dinner,” it was reported.

While Kenya is expected to continue offering military aid to different countries, it is not expected the country will have boots on the ground in Sudan or Ukraine.

The country has already withdrawn its soldiers from the Democratic Republic of Congo and a similar process is continuing in Somalia.

President William Ruto’s administration has in the past indicated that its foreign policy will be guided by diplomacy over aggression.
