Commotion ensued outside Parliament buildings on Tuesday afternoon after comedian Eric Omondi staged demonstrations.
The self-proclaimed activist who was in the company of a group of protestors staged the demonstrations picketing against the Finance Bill, 2024.
However, the protests were cut short after police officers intervened to quell the escalating demonstrations.
Upon intervention, the officers arrested the comedian who despite the arrest, adamantly shouted as he attempted to rally the protestors.
In the videos that have since circulated online, the protestors could be spotted holding huge placards as they demanded the intervention of Members of Parliament on the controversial bill.
While demonstrating, the protestors of whom a majority were women clad in sack clothes accused the legislators of betrayal amidst claims of planning to approve the Finance bill into law.
To further vent their frustrations, the demonstrators scattered twigs along the main road along Parliament as they sought to engage the MPs.
Following his arrest, the comedian was detained in a room located inside Parliament Buildings before the officers began interrogating him.
It is not the first time the comedian has been arrested. In February last year, Omondi was similarly arrested for leading protests against the high cost of living outside Parliament Buildings.
Eric Omondi alongside other activists participated in the blocking of Parliament Road in an attempt to compel the government to lower the prices of basic commodities.
The officers who were manning the buildings were forced to lob tear gas canisters to disperse the protestors.
"Welcome aboard Eric Omondi, more people will join our movement of change - the cost of living is too high," Narok Senator Ledama Olekina stated at the time.
