Public Service Commission Appoints Paul Famba as New CEO

The Public Service Commission (PSC) on Wednesday announced the appointment of Paul Famba as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Famba, who previously served as a secretary under the Ministry of Interior takes over from Simon Rotich whose tenure as the CEO comes to an end in July 2024.

Following the announcement, Famba shall formally take over the new role on August 1, this year and serve for five years.

While confirming the appointment, PSC Chairperson Anthony Muchiri announced that the commission made the appointment in the exercise of its powers under Section 15(2) of the Public Service Commission Act.

Famba holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Nairobi and a Master of Arts Degree in Peace and Conflict Management from Kenyatta University.

He has also served as a senior officer in various capacities including as Assistant County Commissioner, State Protocol Officer, Deputy County Commissioner and Director of Administration.

"The incoming CEO brings to the Commission a wealth of experience as a career administrator, having served in senior positions in the Government," the PSC Chairperson noted.

The new CEO has also received various awards in recognition of his outstanding service to the nation including the award of the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS) and Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya (OGW).

On April 3, the Commission announced an open vacancy for the position of CEO through an advertisement published by a local daily.

PSC in its announcement issued a three-week deadline for applicants to submit their details after which interviews were conducted

Simon Rotich, the current CEO, assumed the top role on August 1, 2019, and has since completed his five-year tenure.

“Pursuant to Article 233 (5) and (6) and section 15 (1) and (2) of the Public Service Commission Act, 2017, the Public Service Commission is mandated to appoint a suitably qualified person to be the secretary to the commission through an open, transparent and competitive recruitment process,” read part of the vacancy advertisement.
