The Public Service Commission (PSC) has announced over 500 job openings in the civil service, alongside an additional 203 positions advertised by the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC).
In its comprehensive advertisement released on Tuesday, May 14, PSC unveiled a diverse array of job opportunities aimed at addressing critical needs across various sectors.
Among the highlights of the announcement are 105 vacancies for Occupational Safety and Health Officers, eight positions for Medical Officers, and 10 openings for Nursing Officers II. Notably, the government is actively seeking to recruit six pharmacists.
Under the thematic banner of Environment and Climate Change, the PSC has taken significant steps to address pressing environmental concerns by announcing three openings for Assistant Directors of Meteorological Services. Moreover, the commission is seeking to hire the Director of the Meteorological Services Training Institute and Research, along with 39 vacancies for meteorologists.
This move comes amidst growing criticism of the country's understaffed and underfunded Kenya Meteorological Department, highlighting the urgent need for expertise in weather forecasting and environmental monitoring.
In addition to these roles, the PSC has advertised key positions within the realm of environmental policy and regulation. These include openings for Directors and Deputy Directors across various portfolios.
Beyond the environmental sector, the PSC's advertisement also encompasses 19 positions in cooperatives. Additionally, the commission has earmarked 27 roles in medical services, aiming to address staffing shortages and improve healthcare delivery across the country.
Furthermore, the PSC has readvertised 177 openings for Deputy County Commissioner II positions, initially advertised in 2023. The commission has directed previous applicants to reapply.
Interested and qualified persons are required to make their applications online through the Commission website, www.publicservice.go.ke, on or before the closure of business on June, 4, 2024.
Meanwhile, the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has launched a recruitment campaign to fill 203 positions within the institution.
The announced openings, unveiled on Tuesday, encompass a diverse range of roles crucial for the effective functioning of the college. Among these are opportunities for Senior Lecturers in Pharmacy and Community Oral Health.
Furthermore, KMTC is actively seeking to recruit Lecturers II across various disciplines, with specific emphasis on Clinical Medicine (25 jobs), Nursing (50 jobs), Orthopaedic and Trauma Medicine (15 jobs), Medical Social Work (15), Health Records and Info Technology (20), Medical Engineering (15), Medical Lab Science (5), Radiography and Imaging (10), Nutrition and Dietetics (15) and Dental Technology (5). The college is also seeking 10 drivers.
In line with legal and ethical requirements, KMTC stipulates that successful candidates must furnish certain documents before the issuance of offer letters. These include certificates of clearance from regulatory bodies such as the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), Credit Reference Bureau (CRB), and a valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Prospective applicants are encouraged to submit their applications online through the designated portal on the KMTC website. However, candidates are reminded to provide accurate and complete information as failure to do so may result in disqualification.
Shortlisted candidates will be required to present original identification documents, academic certificates, and transcripts during the interview stage. Any attempt to present falsified or counterfeit documents is deemed a criminal offence, underscoring the seriousness with which KMTC approaches matters of credential verification and integrity.
The deadline for applications is set for Friday, May 31, 2024.
