A businessman from Mombasa County has turned to Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome after he was evicted from his multimillion property.
He accused the police of working with rogue individuals to grab his property valued at approximately Ksh200 million.
The businessman who spoke to the press on Wednesday revealed that his building had been occupied by goons who police officers ferried.
"I have been illegally evicted by the OCS from Makupa Police Station. They took me away to intimidate me and the sad part is that the OCS confirmed who is the proprietor of the property," he stated.
He revealed that the police officers from Makupa Police Station had evicted him and his employees from the building and barricaded the entrance.
However, he did not reveal whether the officers communicated who had given them instructions to evict him and lock up the property.
The businessman told the press that his attempts to enter the building led to an altercation with the police officers causing chaos that attracted the local residents.
The building located along Mwakilingo Road remained closed despite the businessman's requests.
He further revealed that he had occupied the building for over 25 years and had the right documentation to prove the ownership.
To prove his point, the millionaire showed his documents and court orders declaring him as the rightful owner of the property in question. The Court of Appeal had ruled in his favour directing him to take over his property.
Therefore, the businessman has asked IG Koome to intervene and recover his property from the undisclosed individuals working with the law enforcement officers.
He argued that if the IG allowed the officers to take control of his property, it paved the way for more officers to go against the law and evict other business owners across the country.
"I plead with the Inspector General and the National Government to intervene because police cannot be used as goons for hire. Kenya has its laws and they must be adhered to," he emphasised.
