Reports indicated that the senior officer opened fire while the court was in session. He shot her inflicting severe injuries on her body.

The Judicial Service Commission condemned the incident terming it as an unfortunate occurrence.

In a statement signed by the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, Winfrida Mokaya, the Judiciary stated that it was enhancing the security protocols for all civilians visiting courts across the country and assured all judicial officers of their safety while going about their activities.

The Judiciary further revealed that the incident occurred after the magistrate cancelled the bond of a suspect whose case she was handling. Mokaya called for calm, reiterating that the law enforcement agencies had commenced thorough investigations into the matter.

The judiciary issued the statement after the incident captured national attention.

As investigations continue, security personnel have cordoned off the law courts from the general public. Officers from the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) have taken charge to expedite investigations.
