Police Officer Among Dead in Accident Claiming 3 Lives and Injuring 7 Others on Kisii-Migori Highway

Three people, including a police officer, died on the morning of Saturday, June 15, after the vehicle they were travelling in was involved in an accident along the Kisii-Migori highway.

The accident occurred when a lorry transporting fruits lost control and collided with two oncoming vehicles before rolling over onto pedestrians.

Following the incident, other road users quickly embarked on a rescue mission to save those trapped inside the wreckage.

While confirming the incident, the Kisii County Police Commander disclosed that the 5 am crash left about seven people critically injured.

Among those who succumbed on the spot include a police officer, a driver a passenger and a pedestrian.

In the widely shared images of the accident, the lorry was completely damaged with classes strewn all over the road.

Meanwhile, the lorry has since been towed to the police station in Kisii and investigations commenced to unravel the root cause of the tragedy.

In an analogous situation in Kajiado county, four people on Friday night lost their lives after a car they had boarded was hit by a lorry.

The accident occurred along the Oloitokitok - Emali road and involved a saloon car which lost control and rammed into an oncoming lorry.

Among the fatalities included two women, a man and a child.

Oloitokitok Sub-County traffic base commander confirmed the tragedy stating that the deceased were taken to Oloitokitok Sub-County mortuary.

Statistics by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) reveal that 7,198 Kenyans have been involved in accidents between January and April this year. 

According to NTSA, out of the 7,198 Kenyans, 1,189 died from road accidents, 3,316 were seriously injured and 2,693 suffered from minor injuries.
