The government on Tuesday dispatched a contingent of police officers outside parliament buildings after a section of Kenyans threatened to storm the premises.

While reinforcing the security outside the Bunge Tower, the officers cordoned off the area to restrict unauthorised access.

In the images obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, armed police officers who were clad in full gear could be captured strolling in groups around the parliament building.

Police water trucks could also be spotted stalled along the highway leading to the building as the officers prepared themselves for the looming showdown.

The move comes amidst threats by Kenyans to demonstrate outside the building which hosts legislators as they seek to stop them from passing the contentious Finance bill 2024.

According to sources privy to the information, the demonstrations are set to kick off at noon and will be led by human rights activities and civil societies.

"Today's call for Kenyans to assemble outside Parliament is in line with the rights of Kenyans to assemble, demonstrate, picket and petition Parliament under the Constitution of Kenya Article 37," read part of a statement by Amnesty International, a human rights group.

"The focus of the picket is to express the views of Kenyans on the 2024/2025 Budget and taxation measures being proposed."

Meanwhile, Nairobi Region Police Commander Adamson Bungei has warned Kenyans that no protests or picketing will be allowed near the parliament buildings.

Bungei while speaking to Citizen TV, clarified that no one applied for picketing as recommended by the law thus the officers will deal decisively with the protestors.

He noted that police officers have already been mobilized to ensure that any gathering within the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) is dispersed instantly.

The Finance Bill is set to be tabled today in parliament ahead of tomorrow's review by the Members of Parliament.
