Residents of Mai Mahiu in Nakuru County expressed concerns on Tuesday, June 18, following reported incidents of earth tremors on both Sunday and Monday.

Describing their experience, residents stated that the tremors occurred between 11 pm on Sunday night and around 7 am on Monday morning.

According to one resident, each tremor lasted for about two minutes before subsiding later on Monday morning.

Residents further revealed that since Monday, June 17, the area had encountered approximately four instances of earth tremors. They described the tremors as intense, capable of being felt even from a distance.

“We are currently living in fear over incidents of earth tremors that have occurred in this place since yesterday," disclosed one of the residents.

"So far we have experienced the tremors four times with the first one taking place at around 11.25 pm yesterday,” the residents added.

The cause of the tremors is yet to be established with the residents calling on the government to intervene and address the issue before it worsens.

According to another resident, the intense shaking had affected the school-going children and also impacted the buildings which could potentially weaken if the vibrations continue.

"Here in Mai Mahiu, we have a large hole that absorbs water and this hole has even killed several people, so we call upon the government to do its investigations and find out the truth about this hole," noted the resident.

"It is irresponsible for the government to remain silent on this matter yet people were carried away by floods. Let them intervene before this turns out to be a tragedy similar to the one that occurred recently."

The Mai Mahiu incident comes barely a fortnight after a section of Nairobi residents complained of alleged earth tremors.

According to a report compiled by Kenyans.co.ke, the tremors were felt in parts of Westlands, Kasarani, Embakasi, Ngong and even Thika.
