The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers deployed along the Kenya-Somalia border helped an expectant woman to deliver a newborn after hours of labour.
According to the KDF, the military officers were at the Gherille Forward Operating Base (FOB) when the expectant mother arrived at the camp.
It was detailed that the middle-aged woman was in advanced labour and had been in pain for over eight hours.
Luckily, the camp also had medical military personnel who attended to the woman before taking her to the nearest hospital for post-delivery care.
"The woman, Kaltuma Hassan Adon, who is in her mid-30s, accompanied by two women, arrived at the Gherille FOB’s Medical Aid Post in advanced labour for about 8 hours and was received by the KDF medical team who went on and successfully assisted her to deliver a healthy baby boy.
"The mother and the newborn baby were later transferred to Gherille Medical Facility for further postnatal care," read the statement in part.
KDF also revealed that its officers also took the initiative to monitor the progress of the woman after her release from the hospital.
During their visit, the officers surprised the mother and the newborn with assorted food items.
Following the actions of the military officers, the KDF praised the personnel highlighting that its officers have previously helped kenyans in need of medical care.
"This latest act of kindness by Gherille FOB comes just three weeks since a team from KDF on patrol came across another woman, who was also in labour.
"Mrs Mungay from Gherille- Somalia sought delivery services prompting the military personnel to take her in before helping her deliver safely," read the statement in part.
