Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers on Thursday, May 25, came to the rescue of an expectant mother while conducting an operation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
According to a statement by KDF on Saturday, May 27, the officers were on patrol in Kibumba - a town in the North Kivu province when the expectant mother approached them seeking help.
Seeing the agony the woman was going through, the Kenyan troops decided to transport her to the Kinyaruchinya Health Centre hospital for treatment.
Despite operating in the war-torn country and facing conflict with the militia, the officers decided to wait for her to safely deliver.
"The Kenyan contingent troops under the East African Community Regional Force (EACRF) on Thursday offered medical aid to an expectant lady who sought help from the soldiers on patrol in Kibumba.
"She was transported to the Kinyaruchinya Health Centre, where she had a successful delivery," read the statement in part.
After delivering, the officers took her back home to ensure her safety and showered her family with foodstuff to help sustain the mother and her baby.
The Kenyan troops are part of the East African Community Regional Force (EACRF) which is undertaking an operation to bring peace to DRC.
"EACRF continues to enhance the Protection of Civilians, opening up the Main Supply Routes for the free flow of people and goods and aiding humanitarian assistance in the Joint Operation Area for socio-economic development in the ongoing peace and stability efforts in Eastern DRC," read the statement in part.
Following the incident, Kenyans took to social media to celebrate the officers for their kind acts of humanity.
"This is the greatest humanitarian work. Good work to KDF," David Rotich stated.
"This is so touching men, may God grant you good health to continue offering humanitarian support to anyone in need.God bless KDF," Osteen Koech added.
