Kenya Met Lists Mombasa, Kisumu, and Two Other Regions to Receive Heavy Rainfall for Next 5 Days

The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecasted dry conditions for most parts of the country from June 22 to June 26.

However, the weather department, in its advisory, announced that heavy rainfall is expected in certain areas, including the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and the Coast.

Counties within these regions include Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, and Elgeyo-Marakwet.

Additionally, heavy rainfall is forecasted for counties such as Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot during this period.

Residents living in the coastal counties of Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale were also warned to brace for heavy rains throughout the weekend and part of next week.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country was projected to remain dry with light showers expected in Nairobi from Monday, June 24.

According to the Kenya Met boss David Gikungu, the counties of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka and Nairobi would experience sunny conditions throughout the weekend.

However, the above counties would receive light showers for the first two days of the coming week after which the counties would experience sunny weather.

“Intermittent cool and cloudy conditions are expected over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands and the Rift Valley,” read part of the advisory.

“Strong southerly to south-easterly winds with speeds exceeding 25 knots (12.9 m/s) are expected over some parts of the Coast, the South-eastern lowlands, North-eastern and North-western Kenya.”

According to the advisory, counties of Turkana, Samburu, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo were expected to remain dry throughout the five days.

Other countries that would experience a similar weather pattern include Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta.
