The Kenya Meteorological Department has projected weekend rains for various estates within Nairobi County including Westlands.

In its 24-hour projection of weather patterns, Westlands was highlighted as one of the areas where the rain intensity will range between 20 and 40 millimetres.

Other areas to receive similar rain projections include Dagoretti North, Dagoretti South, Roysambu, Kamukunji and Embakasi North.

Starehe and parts of Kibra and Lang'ata will also be receiving the rains projected for the weekend.

Therefore, residents were urged to plan accordingly and keep themselves warm during the weather conditions.

In recent weeks, the rains have also caused flooding of roads as was witnessed in Westlands two weeks ago.

"Occasional cool and cloudy conditions with light rains will be observed in the Central Highlands, including the Nairobi area, and some parts of western Kenya, the Central Rift Valley, and the Southeastern Lowlands as the cold season gradually sets in," read the advisory in part.

Likewise, it was noted that areas within Nairobi and neighbouring counties near Mt Kenya would also experience cold nights.

"Average night-time (minimum) temperatures will be low (less than 10 Degrees Celcius ) over some parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley and the Central Rift Valley," read the advisory in part.

"Intermittent cold and cloudy conditions are expected over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands and the Rift Valley.

Notably, the weather patterns of rains and cold nights are projected to continue through the entire month in Nairobi and neighbouring counties.

"The cumulative rainfall in this region is likely to be above the long-term average amounts for June. A few days are expected to be cold and chilly with daytime (maximum) temperatures falling below 18 Degrees Celcius in various parts due to overcast skies. Occasional afternoon and evening showers are likely to occur," read the monthly forecast.
