In the wake of the prolonged rains, the Kenya Meteorological Department has warned of continued downpours in selected parts of the country.
In a 5-day advisory dated June 8, the Kenya Met Director General David Gikungu predicted weekend rains in four regions: the Highlands East, the West of Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley.
Counties in the highlighted regions include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, and Nairobi.
Others are Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet and Nandi counties.
Counties of Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot were also forecasted to experience moderate rains for the next five days.
According to Gikungu, cold and cloudy conditions were also expected over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands, and the Rift Valley.
"Strong southerly to south-easterly winds with speeds exceeding 25 knots (12.9 m/s) are expected over some parts of the Coast, North-eastern and North-western Kenya," the Kenya Met DG noted.
Meanwhile, the North-eastern counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo were expected to experience sunny conditions for the next five days.
Other counties to experience the above weather patterns include Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta.
Night temperature levels were predicted to drop to a low of 7°C with daytime temperatures of some regions expected to hit 37°C.
Among counties set to experience extremely cold nights include Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka.
Counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Isiolo, Turkana, and Samburu were predicted to experience very high daytime temperatures of up to 37°C.
