Kenya Met Lists Nairobi Among Counties to Experience Very Hot Days & Very Cold Nights for Next 5 Days

Kenyans were on Thursday warned to brace for very cold nights and extremely hot days for the next five days.

According to the meteorological service, night temperatures would drop to a low of 7°C while daytime temperatures were expected to hit the 37°C mark.

Among counties to experience such temperatures include Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu and Tharaka.

In his weekly weather advisory, Kenya Met Director General David Gikungu stated that night temperatures in the above regions would fluctuate between 7°C and 9°C.

Counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Isiolo, Turkana and Samburu were predicted to experience very high daytime temperatures of up to 37°C.

Meanwhile, the Southeastern lowland regions of Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta Counties would experience daytime temperatures of up to 34°C

Other counties that would also experience such temperature readings include Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo and Uasin Gishu.

The Coastal counties of Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale were projected to experience daytime heat of up to 33°C and sunny conditions throughout the week.

"Intermittent cold and cloudy conditions are expected over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands and the Rift Valley," Kenya Met announced. 

"Strong southerly to south-easterly winds with speeds exceeding 25 knots (12.9 m/s) is expected over some parts of the Coast, North-eastern and North-western Kenya."

The announcement comes days after the weather department predicted continued rains over a few areas in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley.

"Most parts of the country are likely to be generally dry," the meteorological department revealed.
