The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has supplied the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) with a list of all abductees urging the unit to expedite its investigations.
Accompanied by a section of lawyers on Friday, the LSK filed a formal report for investigations into the recently reported cases of abductions. In their report, the society noted some of the unconstitutional tactics they claim had been deployed against Kenyan youths for exercising their democratic rights.
The society raised their dissatisfaction with the actions taken to combat future cases of abduction.
"We filed a formal report for investigations into the recent rampant abductions by unidentified persons believed to be a rogue faction of the police force." LSK President Faith Odhiambo noted in a statement.
"We supplied the DCI with a list of all abductees who are yet to be released and whose information has been brought to the LSK," she added.
The council urged members of the public to report any new cases of abduction that may arise through the toll-free number 0800 720 434.
The LSK has been at the forefront in standing with those disrupted by the Anti-Finance Bill protests.
There have been reported several instances of abductions as the protests escalated.
Several prominent social media users and other key influencers have been allegedly abducted and held and held incommunicado.
Gabriel Oguda, a vocal social media and political activist, was abducted at dawn on Tuesday, June 25, hours to Finance Bill demonstrations. Oguda was then released 24 hours later.
Osama Otero, who has been holding popular X Space during Finance Bill protests rallying the youths to reject the bill in its entirety, was also reportedly abducted by unknown people. He was abducted along with other X space users such as Drey Mwangi, TemperCR7, Harriet, Shad, Franje, Worldsmith, and Hilla254.
In a similar incident that happened in Mombasa county, Abdulwamad Sheriff Nassir, the Mombasa governor, on Sunday shared footage of a young man being abducted in broad daylight in Bamburi.
The LSK was accompanied by several legislators including Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo, Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje, Amos Mwago for Starehe, Catherine Omanyo for Busia, Wanami Wamboka representing Bumula, and nominated Senator Catherine Mumma.
